Story of Flowers

Animated short film(with Azuma Makoto), 3 min 28 sec 2017

In 2017, Katie Scott and James Paulley collaborated with Japanese flower artist Azuma Makoto on Story of Flowers, their first animated short film. The work follows the lifecycle of flowers in rich, luminous detail, from budding growth to full bloom, weaving together Scott's intricate illustrative style with Paulley's fluid motion and Makoto's poetic understanding of floral form. The result is a tender and visually immersive meditation on nature's cycles, capturing the fleeting beauty and quiet wonder of the natural world. Since then, the trio have created two further films together and are currently developing a fourth, continuing their shared interest in the intersection of nature, art, and animation.
